MIGRATION AND REMITTANCES – STATISTICAL AND ECONOMETRIC MODELS USED TO ANALYZE THE IMPACT OF REMITTANCES IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
In this article, the authors proposed to analyze the current context of labor migration, as well as the analysis of remittances, a phenomenon taking place simultaneously with that of migration. The paper presents general notions of migration and remittances, with particular emphasis on the impact of remittances on the economic development of a country. Migrants and their families are considered key factors in economic growth, as long as remittances are used efficiently, not only for consumption but for saving, investment or entrepreneurial development as well. What brings into question the financial inclusion of these segments of the population: migrants and their families. The authors present the general notions of the concept of poverty, the methods and the indicators by which it is measured. It also presents statistical and econometric models in which a correlation between remittances is attempted, as a positive effect in reducing poverty and implicitly in economic growth.
