Abstract
Acest articol a încercat să determine care este nivelul cunoştinţelor românilor despre Uniunea Europeană şi cum se modelează aceste cunoştinţe asupra percepţiei identităţii europene a acestora. Ideea acestei cercetări vine în contextul în care Uniunea Europeană lipseşte din spaţiul public românesc, referiri în mass-media la acest organism fiind destul de puţine. Mai mult, prezenţa UE în mass-media nu este una care să asigure o educaţie cetăţenilor români, iar din această perspectivă subiectul de cercetare devine şi mai generos.
În general, europenii, nu doar românii, nu ştiu foarte multe despre Uniunea Europeană, iar articolul de faţă confirmă acest lucru. Românii cunosc doar câteva elemente generale referitoare la Uniune, şi doar persoanele cu studii în domeniu cunosc mai în detaliu principalele instituţii europene şi rolul lor. Mai mult, la 13 ani de la aderare, românii continuă să privească Uniunea Europeană doar din perspectiva utilitaristă, iar libera circulaţie este văzută în continuare ca cel mai mare câştig al aderării.

Study on the perception of Romanians towards the European Union
Abstract
This article tried to determine the level of knowledge of Romanians about the European Union and how this knowledge is modelled on the perception of their European identity. The idea of this research comes in the context in which the European Union is missing from the Romanian public space, references in the media to this body being quite few. Moreover, the EU’s presence in the media is not one that provides education to Romanian citizens, and from this perspective the research topic becomes even more generous.
In general, Europeans, not just Romanians, do not know much about the European Union, and this article confirms this. Romanians know only a few general elements regarding the Union, and only those with studies in the field know in more detail the main European institutions and their role. Moreover, 13 years after accession, Romanians continue to look at the European Union only from a utilitarian perspective, and free movement is still seen as the biggest gain of accession.
